Announcing the Exhibiting Artists at the 61st Annual Craft + Design

Yeonsoo Kim, “Be Yourself.”

Your favorite craft show is taking over Main Street Station the weekend of November 21! Mark your calendars for another fun weekend of shopping contemporary craft, enjoying local brews, experiencing live artist demonstrations, and so much more. Today, VisArts is proud to announce the more than 170 artists exhibiting at Craft + Design, and has named ceramic artist Yeonsoo Kim as this year’s Featured Artist.

Yeonsoo Kim joins 41 other first-time juried exhibitors at Craft + Design. Kim is a ceramic artist from Haenam, South Korea, currently based in New Hampshire. His practice explores the dialogue between tradition and contemporary form. His signature lidded vessels are inspired by Onggi—traditional Korean vessels used for storage and fermentation—and incorporate a life-long drawing practice into his ceramics, exploring themes of identity and psychology. In addition to functional ceramic pieces, his booth at Craft + Design will include sculptural pieces, wall hangings, and more.

“I feel truly honored and excited to be selected as this year’s Featured Artist at Craft + Design,” Kim told us. “This is a great chance for me to share the stories behind my work and connect with people face-to-face. I believe art becomes more meaningful when there’s a personal connection, and I hope my pieces can start conversations about tradition, culture, and identity. It’s also exciting to be showing in a new city. Every audience brings a different energy, and I’m curious to see how people in Richmond will respond to my work.”

Kim apprenticed with Onggi masters in Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do, shaping both his technique and artistic philosophy, and went on to earn a BFA from Hongik University and an MFA in ceramics from the University of Georgia. After years of pursuing residency opportunities, Kim has recently switched his focus to sharing his work at craft shows. He has received various national and international recognition: In 2020, Kim was named one of NCECA’s Emerging Artists, and most recently this spring, Kim was awarded Best in Show at the 2025 Smithsonian Craft Show.

For the second year in a row, VisArts is also spotlighting an Emerging Artist—an artist who has been in their current practice for ten years or less. This year, VisArts names Pittsburgh-based sculptor, Teresa Audet, as this year’s Emerging Artis. Her multi-disciplinary mixed-media pieces are created using carved wood, woven rattan, and cast paper pulp.  Her current work explores the role of art-making as a meditative tool for emotional processing; practicing mindfulness and purpose through the use of hand tools and craft skills like weaving and carving. Like Kim, Audet is a first-time exhibitor at Craft + Design.

For the 61st year of Craft + Design, 375 artists from across the country submitted applications for 135 juried exhibitor booths at this increasingly competitive show. Exhibitors are selected for their expertise across a variety of craft media. This year, 35 of the 135 juried booths will feature the works of Virginia-based artists. In addition to juried exhibitors, other booths will feature partner arts organizations, local makers, and VisArts teachers. Altogether, more than 170 artists will be selling museum-quality craft at the show. Explore this year’s line-up of exhibiting artists.

Tickets go on sale Monday, October 6.
