About the Event

 The Visual Arts Center of Richmond’s Craft + Design is a contemporary craft show that has garnered a reputation for showcasing the finest in museum-quality craft. The show is held in the historic Main Street Station’s train shed and draws more than 9,000 guests to shop the work of 170+ artists from all over the country. Since the inaugural show in 1964, Craft + Design has become more than just a craft show. Today, it’s a weekend-long event featuring live artist demonstrations, family-friendly workshops, and local food and drink.

Craft + Design is the signature event of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, a nonprofit community arts center located in the heart of Richmond’s Fan District.

Getting to main street station + Parking

BY TRAIN

Out-of-town guests can take Amtrak trains directly to Main Street Station.

BY CAR

Public metered parking is available in the lots surrounding Main Street Station. Street parking is available throughout Shockoe Bottom, and several paid parking garages are located within a short walk.

VALET PARKING 

Valet parking is free to all guests on Friday night during the McKinnon and Harris Patrons’ Preview Party. 

BY BUS

GRTC Pulse runs down Broad Street, from Willow Lawn to Rockett’s Landing, every 15 minutes. Rides are free. Hop off directly in front of Main Street Station.

Craft + Design Over the Years

1964
First exhibit, "A Sculptor's Crafts" is presented with 70 artists and craftsmen.
1976
Craft Fair moves to Richmond Arena.
1985
Hand Workshop moves to the historic Virginia Dairy Building at 1812 West Main Street, reuniting all programming in one facility.
2007
Craft + Design show moves to the Science Museum of Virginia.
2017
Craft + Design show moves to Main Street Station and greets 10,000 visitors.

Since 1963, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts) has helped adults and youth explore their creativity and make art. Each year, VisArts offers 1,500 visual and creative arts classes and touches the lives of more than 50,000 people through its classes, community programs, exhibitions, and special events.
